The march started from in front of the Budapest University of Technology on the Buda side of the capital on Saturday.<\/p>\n

C\u00d6F-C\u00d6KA leader L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Csizmadia told participants at the start of the event that \u201cwe are ready to protect Europe\u2019s Christian-Jewish civilization\u201d.<\/p>\n

Participants lined up behind a giant banner with an image of former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcs\u00e1ny, a photo of the mounted police attack on demonstrators in 2006, and an inscription \u201cnever again\u201d.<\/p>\n

Supporters of the pro-government Civic Union Forum (C\u00d6F) and associated C\u00d6KA foundation gathered to hold their Peace March to mark the anniversary of Hungary\u2019s 1956 revolution.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The crowd was scheduled to walk over to the Pest side and of the city and join central commemorations addressed by Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n later in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever again Bolshevism, never again Communism, never again Nazism,\u201d Csizmadia said, addressing the crowd, adding that \u201cwe don\u2019t want either extreme liberalism or the decadent ideology of an open society\u201d.<\/p>\n

He called on participants to remember the heroes of 1956, the \u201cvictims of K\u00e1d\u00e1r\u2019s retaliation\u201d and also to remember \u201chow the Gyurcs\u00e1ny regime desecrated the anniversary of the revolution in 2006, when the streets of Pest were stained with blood\u201d.<\/p>\n

On the subject of relations with the European Union, the C\u00d6F-C\u00d6KA leader said Poles and Hungarians could do without \u201cfriendly fire\u201d, adding that the peoples represented a Europe of nations and had no need for an empire.<\/p>\n

Members of C\u00d6F-C\u00d6KA\u2019s Italian and Polish partner organizations also appeared in the procession. Many of the participants carried national and Szekler flags, while some wore traditional Transylvanian folk costumes.<\/p>\n

Details of the events of 2006 were projected onto a video wall along the route of the Peace March and a water cannon truck was also exhibited to recall the way the crowd was dispersed by police at the time.<\/p>\n

When the front of the procession had reached the venue of the central commemoration on the other side of the river, the tail end of the march was still at the assembly point, next to the University of Technology.<\/p>\n
