Hubert K\u00f3s won the 200-meter backstroke with a world record on Thursday, the opening day of the third stop of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series in Toronto.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the last World Cup stop in Westmont, Illinois, Hubert K\u00f3s said that he might be able to \u201cget a taste\u201d of the world record. This was not to be expected in the first half of the race, as after 100 meters he was about three tenths of a second behind Mitchell Larkin\u2019s 2015 time. In the second hundred meters, however, he practically left the imaginary line marking the world record behind and triumphed with a tremendous time.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old Hungarian swimmer triumphed with a time of 1:45.12, beating Australian Mitchell Larkin\u2019s ten-year-old world record of 1:45.63 by more than half a second.<\/p>\n

The world champion and Olympic champion K\u00f3s set his first adult world record.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Hungarian athlete won this event at all three World Cup stops, thus collecting the triple crown. He is the second active Hungarian world record holder, with Krist\u00f3f Mil\u00e1k\u2019s 200-meter butterfly time the best of all time.<\/p>\n

K\u00f3s was also in the final of the 100-meter medley, the last event of the day, where he surpassed his national record of 50.99 set a week ago at the last stop, finishing second with a time of 50.56.<\/p>\n

A world record was also set in the men\u2019s 100-meter butterfly, with Josh Liendo winning in front of the home crowd with a time of 47.68 seconds, breaking the record of 47.71 set by Switzerland\u2019s No\u00e9 Ponti last year at Duna Arena in Budapest.<\/p>\n
