According to Hungarian wire service MTI, Hungarian Foreign Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 met several members of US President Donald Trump\u2019s White House Staff in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

These included Jason Greenblatt, Trump\u2019s former lawyer and the incumbent of the newly-created position of United States Special Representative for International Negotiations, as well as Hungarian-American Sebastian Gorka<\/a>, Deputy Assistant to the President for national security affairs.<\/p>\n

Gorka<\/a>, a national security expert who has served as a Fox News contributor and national security editor for far-right news site Breitbart, has been in news lately over a controversy surrounding his father\u2019s membership in the Order of Vit\u00e9z (Vit\u00e9zi Rend). This has led to some news outlets accusing Gorka of somehow having \u2018Nazi\u2019 affiliations (read our in-depth article on the \u201ccontroversy\u201d here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

He was also charged with a weapons offense last year for attempting to bring a gun onto an airplane, a charge which has since been dismissed.<\/p>\n

Born in London to parents who had fled the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, Mr. Gorka has in the past served as an advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n. He also worked at the Hungarian Ministry of Defense during the Prime Ministry of J\u00f3zsef Antall, Hungary\u2019s first PM following the end of Communism.<\/p>\n

In addition to meeting Gorka and Greeblatt, the Hungarian Foreign Minister officially opened Hungary\u2019s new embassy building<\/a> in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Minister claimed that, since Donald Trump\u2019s election, America is pursuing \u201cmore patriotic\u201d policies. He also expressed the Hungarian government\u2019s view that Trump\u2019s presidency will \u201cbe successful in making America safer and greater,\u201d which, he claimed, would make the world a safer and greater place.<\/p>\n

Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 claimed the world is now facing a discernable fresh start a \u201cfresh start\u201d. He expressed his belief that what he termed the \u201cage of hypocrisy and political correctness\u201d has come to an end. He argued that the previous US Administration\u2019s \u201cintrusion into Hungary\u2019s internal affairs\u201d has also ended, and that \u201cAmerica\u2019s new approach to Hungary is much more constructive.<\/p>\n

He called for a redoubling of efforts to defeat the Islamic State, and expressed Hungary\u2019s pride in being one of 27 countries fighting alongside the United States in this effort.<\/p>\n

Perhaps referring to Trump\u2019s hardline stance and recent, controversial executive actions regarding \u201cillegal migration,\u201d Hungary\u2019s Foreign Minister said that it was \u201conly natural\u201d for a country\u2019s leadership to put the security of the nation and its citizens first, adding that \u201cHungary has been doing the same, heavy criticism notwithstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gorka, a national security expert who has served as a Fox News contributor and national security editor for far-right news site Breitbart, has been in news lately over a controversy surrounding his father\u2019s membership in the Order of Vit\u00e9z (Vit\u00e9zi Rend). This has led to some news outlets accusing Gorka of somehow having \u2018Nazi\u2019 affiliations (read our in-depth article on the \u201ccontroversy\u201d here). He was also charged with a weapons offense last year for attempting to bring a gun onto an airplane, a charge which has since been dismissed. Born in London to parents who had fled the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, Mr. Gorka has in the past served as an advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n. He also worked at the Hungarian Ministry of Defense during the Prime Ministry of J\u00f3zsef Antall, Hungary\u2019s first PM following the end of Communism. In addition to meeting Gorka and Greeblatt, the Hungarian Foreign Minister officially opened Hungary\u2019s new embassy building in Washington D.C. Following a greeting by Hungarian Ambassador to the United States R\u00e9ka Szemerk\u00e9nyi, Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 expressed his hope that the inauguration of the new embassy building would mark the start of a better relationship between Hungary and the United States. Speaking after Ambassador Reka Szemerk\u00e9nyi\u2019s opening address, Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 expressed hope that the opening of the new building would mark the start of new initiatives resulting in a \u201ccommon success story\u201d with the United States. The Foreign Minister claimed that, since Donald Trump\u2019s election, America is pursuing \u201cmore patriotic\u201d policies. He also expressed the Hungarian government\u2019s view that Trump\u2019s presidency will \u201cbe successful in making America safer and greater,\u201d which, he claimed, would make the world a safer and greater place. Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 claimed the world is now facing a discernable fresh start a \u201cfresh start\u201d. He expressed his belief that what he termed the \u201cage of hypocrisy and political correctness\u201d has come to an end. He argued that the previous US Administration\u2019s \u201cintrusion into Hungary\u2019s internal affairs\u201d has also ended, and that \u201cAmerica\u2019s new approach to Hungary is much more constructive. Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 added that the fight against ISIS, and against terrorism in general, remains the greatest threat currently facing the civilized world. He called for a redoubling of efforts to defeat the Islamic State, and expressed Hungary\u2019s pride in being one of 27 countries fighting alongside the United States in this effort. Perhaps referring to Trump\u2019s hardline stance and recent, controversial executive actions regarding \u201cillegal migration,\u201d Hungary\u2019s Foreign Minister said that it was \u201conly natural\u201d for a country\u2019s leadership to put the security of the nation and its citizens first, adding that \u201cHungary has been doing the same, heavy criticism notwithstanding.\u201d Later in the day, Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 spoke at a business dinner held by the American-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce, where he praised the effects on world economics of supposed \u201cchanges in American economic policy.\u201d Attendees at the event included representatives of Lockheed Martin, Fedex, Comcast, Citibank and Procter and Gamble.
