Hungary ranks first among men’s teams and second among women’s teams in the latest water polo rankings released by European Aquatics.
The standings are based on the performance of senior and youth national teams over the past three years. Among the men’s teams, Hungary tops the list having finished in the top six in all of the last eight tournaments included in the ranking.
The team secured silver medals at the senior European Championship in Belgrade and the U16 European Championship in Istanbul.
Serbia, the current European champions, hold second place, while Spain takes third.
In the women’s category, only the European champions from the Netherlands rank ahead of Hungary.
The Dutch team successfully defended their title, winning again in Funchal this year, just as they did in Eindhoven two years ago. Spain finishes in third place.
The federation also published an overall combined ranking, which is led by Hungary, ahead of Spain and Greece.
