Liquid Gold (Folyékony arany)

The Aszú of Tokaj, a sweet wine of Hungary, was once cherished by King Louis XIV, Queen Victoria, Peter the Great, Goethe and Beethoven. But the world has since forgotten the noble Aszú; two world wars, the enforced collectivisation of the Communist regime and the deadly filoxera epidemic had all wreaked havoc on the vines. Three men: István Szepsy, the scion of a great Hungarian wine-making family, András Bacsó, the managing director of Oremus, and László Alkonyi, a once-successful stock broker who fell in love with wine-making and moved to Tokaj. One shared obsession: to return the Great Wine to its place on the most important tables of the world.
The men set the bar high: to make the world’s best, 100% naturally produced sweet wine. Battling nature’s whims and competing with global powers, could they better the grandest international wine producers and restore the Aszú to its former glory?

The love of Dora’s life broke up with her, even worse: he married another woman. She starts a pastry shop where she makes unfulfilled love sweet by selling pastries named after famous unfulfilled love couples from film history. When her pastry shop appears to be lost too she makes up her mind to get her love and her pastry shop back, even if she has to lie to do it. On her way, she meets other families as well as her ex-boyfriend and his new wife. These meetings make her realise the love she hangs on to has no basis in reality. Dora stops living in a state of romantic self-pity, ends the lying and opens up to the possibility of a new, real relationship.

The Sound of Freedom

With this concert we remember the 65. anniversary of the Hungarian 1956 freedom fight and revolution where the Hungarian people fought for their freedom. We remember the heroes with a classic concert of Christian selections featuring three young and very talented Hungarian musicians accompanied by a 32-member professional symphonic orchestra. Most of musicians are from Local 4 – Cleveland Federation of Musicians who perform professionally in the Cleveland area in the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and other orchestras or teach music in the Cleveland area.

  1. Gwyneth Gherzan – prodigy violinist at the age of 16. She has won several 1st place awards at different competitions including two at Carnegie Hall. She has received the Grade 8 Violin Performance Certificate from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in England.
  2. Levente Meszaros – baritone, studied music at the Conservatory of Music in Oradea, Romania. He competed in the Hungary’s Got Talent – Virtuoso category where he was a finalist.
  3. Greta Pasztor – piano performer. She studied piano performance at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory. Pasztor completed her Master’s in piano performance at Kent State and is beginning her Doctoral Studies in piano performance at the University of Arizona.

The visionary and conductor of this concert, Dr. Marius Marton studied music composition at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory with Dr. Loris Ohannes Chobanian and conducting with Dwight Oltman. The concert will feature Dr. Marton’s musical compositions.

TORN FROM THE FLAG is the first Hungarian American picture nominated for the National Film Registry. The Library of Congress is particularly interested in your nomination of a lesser-known film title.
The Library of Congress’ National Film Registry is a list of films deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” that are recommended for preservation. These motion pictures are works of enduring importance to American culture. They reflect who we are as a people and as a nation.
The National Film Registry has historically only included movies produced or co-produced by American companies or individuals, typically for theatrical release, or films recognized through festivals or awards. The nominated film must be at least 10 years old.
Oscar contender, TORN FROM THE FLAG, was released in 2007, has been screened at 21 film festivals, and won eight awards. It was also invited to and presented at the United States Congress, and was entered into the Congressional Record. The President and the Prime Minister of Hungary awarded the documentary with the Hero of the Freedom Fight Award.

TORN FROM THE FLAG (A lyukas zászló) is about the Cold War, the international decline of Communism, and the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. According to several critics and historians, the documentary is the “most comprehensive chronicle of the Hungarian uprising yet caught on film” and “the best documentary ever made” about this topic.

The Librarian of Congress makes the annual selections to the National Film Registry after reviewing thousands of titles nominated by the public, and announces another 25 movies that are added to the list.
The public is highly encouraged to submit a nomination for consideration. The deadline is around September 15. You can submit your recommendation through an online form HERE. Please cast your vote as soon as possible.

TORN FROM THE FLAG is specifically nominated this year because the movie commemorates the 1956 Hungarian Freedom Fight and 2021 marks the 65th anniversary of the events.
Also, TORN FROM THE FLAG has been created by a community of 20,000 people, 2,000 financial supporters, and 50 non-profits. It has become the North American Hungarian community’s largest project ever.
Awards & Accolades
TORN FROM THE FLAG is now an educational tool for future generations studying at universities, colleges, and high schools. The non-profit organization, Teach with Movies, suggests the Hungarian American documentary be used for History, Political Science, Film/Cinema/Media Arts, and European Studies.

Gergő’s mother is obsessed with having a grandchild. She has a serious heart disease and has only days left to live. To give his mum some joy during her final hours, Gergő asks his neighbour Saci, who is five months pregnant, to visit his mother in hospital with him and tell her that she is carrying his child. It all goes smoothly, but a new heart arrives, and his mum is operated. Therefore, Gergő and Saci are forced to play the roles of the loving couple.

18-year-old Dávid is the lead violinist in his music conservatory’s orchestra. His mentor and their conductor Frigyes is sort of a father figure for Dávid. Nóri, a freshman student joins the orchestra at the end of the school year. She enjoys Frigyes’ unlimited attention, thus making her unpopular among her peers, but Dávid soon finds out that the 14-year-old girl’s suspiciously close relationship with their 60-year-old conductor is more than what it seems…

While looking for the truth, Dávid’s life soon starts to spiral out of control as he faces tough decisions and the adult society’s negligence.

    A renowned professor of cardiology, who in his youth wanted to be an opera singer, returns to his village after retirement to become the local GP. In the village he faces unresolved conflicts, the attitude of servitude, how rumours and fake news can manipulate general opinion, and the intricate network of interdependent relationships. The only person with whom he can share his troubles is his childhood classmate who is now the village priest. He clashes with the mayor of the village over a forest spring falsely claimed to have healing properties. He is so savagely attacked over the issue that he decides to leave the village. He needs to seek another path to survive and finally fulfils his youthful ambition of finding himself through music and song.

      Péter investigates a sex-trafficking ring as a big city cop in Brasov. He has dedicated his life to finding women who have disappeared, and he sees his sister Juli in every girl he saves. Juli disappeared twenty-two years ago in their hometown, Valan, in the ensuing chaos of the Romanian Revolution of 1989.

      Péter has to return to the Transylvanian mining town after receiving a phone call that the body of his sister might have been found among the pines on a snow-capped mountain. His personal investigation in Valan not only forces him to confront a crime rate that is stifling the town, but it also takes him back to the labyrinth of the past where he must face his own demons.
